We seem to have done quite a lot
In a such short space of time,
Where the hours stretched out from the morning
And, instead of never ending,
Bended back upon themselves
And finished off their minutes
Well before intended,
Even as we threaded our way down the street
And greeted the doors
Of the nearest store
With that been here before feeling,
And fell out shouting goodbyes
To the incredibly helpful ladies
Who always make visiting innovative,
And as we played thru the shades of his toys
Until dinner time’s noise announced itself
It seemed barely possible
That the morning had lost itself,
But the meal helped to slow things down
And he slept soundly
Before the afternoon’s broom swept into town,
And then we sent the clock’s work force
Into overdrive as we prised
More time from its mainframe
And filled it with ball games,
And play ground slides,
And then we swung by the bank for a glance
At the riverside and a ride on the see-saw,
And more seconds were drawn from ephemera’s well
And spent along the length of Hook road
As we headed home
And played and ate and watched
Animated animals announce the end
And send him off to his cot
Ahead of his usual bedtime for once.
