MY BASTION.

This winter the weather
Has hammered the old house
Heavier than most,
And the spring is still stinging it some,
But we’re reliably told
That the good sun is due
And will sweep away
Any stone deep chills
That still linger
In the alcoves and rafters
Even after the recent rains slaked
The building’s thirst,
And nurtured its groundwork,
Though they made matters worse
By refusing to move
And highlighting how long
It’s been since the place
Had a decent clean
Or was able to repel
Any heavy pelting
Or replenish itself in times
Of severe dryness;
So hopefully after the coming week
Has brushed through,
And show a peak of June,
We might have a return
Of regular elemental conditions
That may enable me
To perform any upkeep
That the old abode
Has been seeking,
And batten down any hatches
That should help us survive
The coming seasons
With ease.
