I’m trying to capture
Laughter,
As it isn’t as lasting
As sadness,
And I’m attempting
It daily,
Even though nights fall
In the way,
Because felicity’s more
Difficult
To pin down in the dark
Insulation
That smothers the light
Of joy,
And foils good cheer’s
Employment,
And I only have so long
Left here
To establish this fragile
Theory
As many an hour has
Already gone
To the sacrificial alter
Of longing,
And that’s why I’m banging on
My camera’s anvil
With all the vigour of
A vandal.
