You can apply a new diet,
Or exercise,
Or change the way you look at the life
You once brooked;
Or update the way you listen with indifference
To hearing with interest,
And taste the waters more
As you stop holding back the flood;
Breathe in the seething mass of atmosphere
And get the presence of your scent felt,
And make the most of the soldered shell
That holds your ghost,
And generally dwell better
In the synthetic daily yield of city streets
That pepper all the pages of the map
Between your starting and alighting points,
And once you’ve finished the last chapter
Of your previously closed book
Open up an empty one and with a pen in hand
Stand ready to elect its first word’s character
Who hand in hand will lead you and your reader
To the next line’s edge,
Where the perimeters will be as limitless
As all the cast off matter of the universe,
And bonds will break as time takes up the slack
And the passing of fixed examples
Is replaced by the capturing
Of more personal photographs.
